About Us

The Early Bird Pre-School CIC is a community interest company that has been providing a warm and friendly welcome to children and their families in the local community for nearly 20 years. We provide childcare to children from aged 1.

In December 2022 we expanded our provision by taking over a charity run playgroup and offering the same high quality care and education to families in Wheathampstead. And in September 2024 we welcomed families to our newest addition - Strathmore Pre-School in Hitchin! The Company Directors take an active part in every setting and we are delighted to offer team training to the whole of the Early Bird team at all of our settings.

In July 2024 our Letchworth pre-school was delighted to, once again, receive an Outstanding Ofsted judgement where the inspector reported:-

• "Children are at the heart of this unique and inspirational setting.

• Leaders and staff create a captivating and fascinating environment that ignites children's curiosity and sense of discovery.

• Children arrive with a big smile on their face, wave their parents goodbye and quickly become engrossed in this enriching learning provision.

• Staff are incredibly warm and supportive. They have very high expectations of children, whose behaviour is exemplary. Nurturing staff value children's achievements and praise them for their efforts.. children feel involved and appreciated during their time at this setting, building on their confidence, self-esteem and emotional resilience.

• Partnership with parents is exceptional. They feel well supported and involved in their children's learning. Parents praise the progress their children make in their learning and appreciate all the fun and exciting activities that are provided, including trips and outings".

We are proud of our settings and love to engage with our local community and learning from real experiences.  In Letchworth we have built up a great relationship with St Catherine’s Care Home and our nursery children often draw pictures, collect gifts and take on visits to the elderly residents there.  In addition we are welcome visitors to Standalone Farm, the library, L'Artista, Morrisons and the fountain in Broadway Gardens.

In Wheathampstead, you will often see us out and about in the village visiting the library, St Helen's church, running up and down the banks of Devil's Dyke, exploring the Crinkle Crankle gardens, looking at the ducks in Mill Quay or buying groceries for the pre-school in Tesco's.

In Hitchin, we have already explored our local parks and been on a bus to the library. We are looking forward to getting to know the local area further.

All settings love to have visitors, the police, fire service, paramedics and local professionals, crafts people or musicians are all regular visitors.
